making a photo book with blurb

Making a photo book with Blurb

Earlier this year I created my first Blurb photo book. It turned out pretty good (for a quick first attempt).

There’s really nothing quite like having your best photos in an actual, physical book. But issues crop up. You can end up going too broad with your choice of images, or get the layout all wrong. Or maybe your book doesn’t have a natural flow to it.

It’s frustrating at times.

But that’s part of it.

If it was easy, everyone would be be doing it.

Although there are other book creation services out there, I use Blurb because I like (and am now familiar with) their Booksmart software. That takes some of the hard work out of it.

But what does it take to make your own book with Blurb? It’s surprisingly easy – the steps are outlined below:

making a photo book with blurb

1. Gather images

Select your favorite images from your computer. You can always add more photos when you actually make your book, but a little pre-editing can ease you along.

2. Organize the images

Organize your images in the way you want them to appear. Be sure to name image files in order as well, so that when you upload them, you’ll be able to flow images in according to file name. (Example: 2014BestBeachBook.1.jpg)

6. Edit it

Play around a little. Alternate layouts depending on the event or number of photos you want to see per page. Mix it up a little.

7. Proof it

Once complete, be sure to do a solid proof. And make sure you get it in front of another pair of eyes. Fix any typos or mistakes.
